Choose Your Own Web-venture: Artist Statement

The original idea that I had for this project was a Clue themed web-venture where the viewer tries to solve the murder mystery. However, this later changed to an "Adventure Time" theme in which the viewer gets to pick a character and begin looking for clues as to who ate Jake's time sandwich. This show is one of my favorites, one my roommate and I binge watch often, and I wanted to make sure to incorporate various gimmicks from the show—the hidden snail on each page is the same snail that appears briefly in each episode, the time sandwich comes from an episode where Jake really does make a "time sandwich" and someone tries to eat it, etc.—to make it that much more connected to the "Adventure Time" theme.

When the project was assigned I was having a really hard time outside of school and with my mental health (as many college students often go through during finals season), and because of that I wasn't able to put as much time and effort into it as I would've liked. I love the concept of this project, and it gives me a very nostalgic feeling to click through a website like a 2010 gaming website. While I was making my project, I found my mind wondering off onto other web-venture possibilities, so I may reattempt the project for my own growth and creation. Additionally, I really enjoyed the process of making GIFS. It was something that I think would be fun to play with in the future, even for no real purpose at all, because there are so many things that can be made. Overall, I'd love to explore the techniques and features from this project in the future, and even though I wish I had more time to create, I am happy with how the project turned out.
