This project has meant a lot to me as a developing and growing artist. I was able to learn how to work with new technology and software and experience my first-ever art exhibition! The project itself piqued my interest more than any other project this year, mainly because projection and light work are things I have always wanted to work with, and this piece allowed me to do that. When we were first looking at different examples of projection mapping, one thing in particular caught my eye—projection mapping on top of paintings. My jaw was quite literally on the floor when we were watching videos of the paintings being transformed by the projections, so that is most definitely something I want to experiment with in the future.
Getting to showcase my work in an exhibition was more than I could have asked for in an art class, and was such a great experience for me as an artist. It took me a long time to come up with a concept I was really confident with, but eventually, I wanted to communicate the idea that we are all made up of the same organism and molecules when it comes down to it. Plants, humans, animals—we are all made up of the same things! I wanted to visualize this connection, while also adding in the layer of technological impact with the ways that I distorted the videos. I thought the project was very successful and allowed me to grow my skills and my portfolio all at once!
